How to Accept Credit Cards Online

Getting a merchant account for credit card processing is one thing, but being able to accept credit cards online through your website is a little more complicated.

If you already have a merchant account, then this may be suitable for use, you need to check with your bank whether or not they allow this. Assuming that they do, it is simply a case of installing the correct software and configuring your shopping cart.

That is not the only option. There are specialist third-party providers that specialize in processing online transactions. Your existing shopping cart software may already have modules for services such as paypal and ClickBank. If it does, then this is a much easier option. Although it is easier, for higher volume businesses the per-transaction costs can be prohibitive, and getting a dedicated merchant account would make better financial sense.
